Interfirm cooperation, i.e. exchanging, sharing or joint development of new technologies, products or services, creates extra value through economy of scale, efficient market entry, reduced transaction costs, reduced risks and enhanced market position. The number of collaborative initiatives recently surpassed that of newly-established companies in the US. The purpose of this study is to provide a description of the use of different cooperative arrangements by Dutch companies and to examine the role of financial managers in the management of the cooperation.
